Bashing Google Apps
what we all like about Google is that it's fast. realy fast. at least it feals realy fast.
i have 1024MB RAM, a 1,6Ghz Centrino, that means a very well featured laptop. but still i have to wait. switching between apps for example. Or the absolutly worst: click "Save As", or "Attache File(s)" when windows tries to open my dektop.
When i click on the Thunderbird icon in the morning i have to wait a view seconds, until the app is loaded, then almost a minute until all mails are downloaded, than a few more seconds for the junk mail filter to do its work. In the meanwhile i get bored - so i try to continue some other work - for example write this blog entry - so i click this window - wait again. even if it's just a second - the whole screen is flickering and it seams that windows is doing some real hard work.
My point is, that maybe dektop clients are in most of the time faster, but it's so annoying when your system is freezing for a few seconds. It destroys all this objective advantages, and makes you feel that your mail app should be just like Google (GMail).
Especially search: I hate Thunderbirds search. Why is it that it ALWAYS starts searching in the oldest mails. the first results that apear on my screen are somewhen back in Jan 2004 (the time i switched to mozilla mail) because i don't sort my mails into folders.
And why does a task, that takes Google to search some 8,058,044,651 web pages just 0.3 seconds, take thunderbird more than 10 seconds for just a few thousand??
btw. i'm not using gmail, i would hate it not to have my mails on my own computer.
